In 1945, Lian Pontes de Carvalho founded frescobol on the shores of Rio de Janeiro - a universal game that could be played competitively or meditatively. It all depended on the players.
Pontes was an entrepreneur and craftsman specializing in the art of woodworking, handcrafting unique items that he sold on the corner of Rua Duvivier, a stone's throw from Copacabana beach. By crafting his original frescobol bat from reclaimed wood and playing with a stripped-down tennis ball, Pontes brought a distinct - and now iconic - sound to Copacabana beach: a rhythmic “knock-knock” that FRESCOBOL CARIOCA has since transported to coastal destinations around the world.
As the sport's global footprint has grown, FRESCOBOL CARIOCA has expanded its collections, always with an emphasis on quality craftsmanship. Today, the brand offers a range of ready-to-wear, swimwear, shoes and accessories, always in a spirit reflecting Rio's culture, in full transition between city and beach.
