Merz b. Schwanen

Founded in 1911 by Balthasar Merz in the Swabian Alps, Germany, Merz b. Schwanen made cotton underwear and basics before closing its doors in 2008. The brand was revived in 2011 by Peter and Gitta Plotnicki, who acquired the rights to the name after discovering a vintage henley at a Berlin flea market, and relaunched production in Albstadt.

Merz b. Schwanen relies on a rare craft: century-old loopwheel knitting machines that spin organic cotton at low tension to produce a denser, softer fabric with no side seams. The brand's iconic 215 tee, its henleys, and its thermal underwear all embody this commitment to slow, authentically German manufacturing.

Merz b. Schwanen speaks to a clientele who value authenticity and durability over fast fashion, and who recognize in every piece a century of textile heritage carried forward with uncompromising craftsmanship.
